Sexual Violence is a non-legal term that refers to sexual assault, rape, and sexual abuse that is non-consensual.
Sexual violence occurs every 73 seconds and most of the violence that occurs is by someone that they know. Most victims of sexual violence are female, but some victims can be males.
There are many different types of sexual violence and every single one has a lasting affect on someone. There is psychological, physical, and emotional effects on survivors and it is different for every person, but being supportive to the victim is necessary in recovering.
There is an average of 20.5% churchgoers that are survivors of sexual abuse, but there is still ZERO discussion from the pulpit. Why? Because it is a hard topic to discuss, but keeping quiet about a topic is not going to make it go away. The Christian community should talk about these issues because it creates a safer environment for victims and allows them to feel welcomed into a place that makes their reality a little less scary.
"Jesus was the greatest advocate of loving and protecting victims... in history."- Boz Tchividjian.
