My name is Marissa Herriott and this is my story:
In the last couple of years, I have made it my passion to be an advocate for people who do not have the power to come forward about topics like this. Being a victim of sexual assault in the past, has allowed me to have the power to speak up and be bold about these topics that happens around us daily.
I remember being so powerless over my body and not understanding what has happened to me or even how to explain it. In all honesty, I thought that it was my fault. I remember the day that I realized that I needed to start talking to people about it, but they did not understand how to give me resources. I sought different people out to give me advice, until I came to terms with how I could turn my voice into something real for people to be able to read and seek other resources for help. It was not until the end of my junior year of college that I realized I wanted to share my story.
This is a product of researching and seeking advice on how to address such a topic to the church with grace. This is my mission to allow the Christian community have a better understanding of how often these problems take place.
"Then David said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished. " 1 Chronicles 28:20
